About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for welding steel structures, hull sections, and marine components to high industry standards, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and precision throughout the shipbuilding or repair process. Key duties include performing MIG, MAG, FCAW, or Stick welding on marine steel structures, interpreting welding drawings and specifications, preparing materials, carrying out quality checks, and working closely with fabricators and hull fitters to meet project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- ✓Perform MIG, MAG, FCAW, MMA (Stick), or other required welding processes on marine and structural steel
- ✓Weld ship hull sections, steel plates, frames, bulkheads, pipes, and structural components
- ✓Read and interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication blueprints
- ✓Prepare and align materials prior to welding
- ✓Carry out high-quality welds in accordance with engineering and marine standards
- ✓Perform welding in multiple positions (horizontal, vertical, overhead)
- ✓Inspect weld quality and ensure structural integrity
- ✓Operate grinders, cutting equipment, and other fabrication tools safely
- ✓Work closely with hull fitters, fabricators, and engineering teams
- ✓Follow all health & safety procedures in shipyard or industrial environments
- ✓Support shipbuilding, repair, and refurbishment projects to meet deadlines
Requirements
- ✓Minimum 3+ years of welding experience in shipbuilding, marine, heavy engineering, structural steel, or fabrication environments
- ✓Experience welding steel structures, hull sections, heavy steel plates, or marine components
- ✓Ability to read and interpret welding drawings and technical specifications
- ✓Strong experience with MIG / MAG / FCAW / MMA (Stick) welding techniques
- ✓Ability to weld in multiple positions
- ✓Strong understanding of weld quality, penetration, structural integrity, and fabrication tolerances
- ✓Experience using grinders, cutting tools, measuring equipment, and fabrication machinery
- ✓Good understanding of health & safety regulations
- ✓Ability to work independently and within a team
- ✓Basic English communication skills preferred
- ✓Relevant welding certifications or coded welding experience preferred (marine or structural advantageous)
